Does anyone know if you use a converter with the various plugs on something that says 110-240 (so it really does not need a converter just an adapter) will it still work or will it kill the camera?
You won't need a converter, just the adapter plugs. The can purchase them on this website...click the "travel store" tab.
Be sure your appliance says 100-240 V, almost all electronic things do, including battery rechargers. Many electric things are not universal voltage, such as hair dryers, curling irons, razors.
All you need is the adapter plug; Europe has the two round prongs.
If you use a voltage converter when you don't need to, nothing bad will happen. Your battery recharger will work with or without the voltage converter.
thanks Chris - that is what I needed to know (nothing bad will happen if you use a converter when you really don't need it)since I have 1 converter and 1 adapter and really don't want to have to buy more adapters if I can run stuff thru the converter with no harm.
If you are using a small electronic device, like a computer, phone, or camera charger, just make sure that the voltage converter isn't for high wattage (>50W) like for a hair dryer. That kind of a converter chops the top off of the sine wave and the resultant wave form is not suitable and could damage the charger or the device.
But why worry? There are a lot of adapters sold in this country that allow you to plug multiple devices into one outlet. I personally use a little 3-way U.S. plug adapter. Just pay attention to the blade configuration. Some U.S. devices have a "polarized plug", i.e. one blade is wider than the other. The standard Europlug adapter is non-polarized. Make sure all of your electronic devices, as well as the three way adapter, are non-polarized.
