Connection in Boston

Tomorrow we arrive on UA flight from SFO at 7:48 PM at gate B21. Lufthansa flight to FRA departs from Gate E7A at 10:15pm. Can we transfer between terminals inside of security or will we have to go through security again?

thanks again for any information.

You will need to go through security again but we have always found BOS to be very quick to get through security.

thanks. I was thinking in terms or where to pack liquids if we get TSA pre in SFO. I don't think the TSA pre would carry forward to the Lufthansa boarding pass (I get TSA pre 90% of the time on United Flights)

Really no need in BOS - the average wait time in security line is 15 minutes

Thanks for asking the question, Karen, and to everyone else for the comments! I was going to post a similar question for our upcoming trip in September -- we are scheduled to arrive in Boston on Alaska Airlines and depart for Oslo on Norwegian Airlines about 3 hours later. This makes me feel better about our connection time :)

I thought TSA PreCheck meant you didn't have to take your 3-1-1 liquids bag out of your luggage to be screened, but you still have to adhere to 3-1-1 rules. So, I'm not sure how it would affect your packing; you still can't take more or larger liquids through security, PreCheck or not.

Of course, a second security check means that if you buy something in BOS before security, it must adhere to the 3-1-1 rules to get on the plane. I've encountered people who were very upset that they had to throw away beverages bought in the airport, because they hadn't realized they still had more security checks to go through.

Am now in Barcelona, but thought I post our Boston airport experience. Arrive on United in terminal B. Most of the international flights are out of terminal E. I didn't remember this so we were a bit confused as to which bus to take to that terminal. Bus 11 and I think 66 both stop at all the terminals

Security lines were CRAZY. We were lucky as we were flying business, so got through security in 15 minutes. But the line for the masses was through the maze and past all the airlines check in area. Seemed to be moving quickly, but I would guess at least an hour wait, if not more. But terminal E is tiny in comparison to other airports, so once you are though security it's no more than a 3 minute walk to the farthest gate.

Anna, three hour layover is still plenty of time,

In response the the 3+1+1, if we didn't have to go through security after SFO, I could have buried my liquids in my carry on instead of an outside pocket.

This shows why one can never safely predict security wait times. we flew out of Boston (Terminal E) at the end of March, and the line was moderately long, but nowhere near what you describe. We made it through in about 20 minutes, so we had a couple of hours to sit around.

RE: Boston. In terminal E, if the regular security line is long, go to the bar/restaurant to the right of security, the one furthest in of the two restaurants, and have a snack or dinner. Your receipt will allow you to go into the first class line of security and miss the bulk of the security line. Wray
