Connection at Frankfurt Airport

Tomorrow's flight arrives from Boston to FRA on Lufthansa at 11:10 am at Gate Z50 and next flight on LH departs at 12:55 from A27 to Barcelona. If memory serves me right we'll need to clear immigration, but then can get to concourse A without going through security again. Can someone confirm please? Thanks

The A and Z concourses are only a level apart. Z is for international arrivals and is a "quarantine" zone for people going on to non-Schengen destinations, so they don't have to go through Schengen immigration. You will go through Schengen immigration to get from the Z level to the A level. I think the gate numbers coincide on both levels, so A27 will be directly below (?) Z27. I think the change is inside the secure zone, so you won't have to go through security to make the change, but I'm not sure about that.

Anyway, assuming your flight is on time, 1h45m should be plenty of time.

I once changed in Frankfurt from Concourse A to Concourse B, through the connecting tunnel, and went through security three times, but this was four month after 911, and you had to go through security to change your mind.

Note: According to the Frankfurt Airport Transfer Guide you can go from A to B using the tunnel without any security checks.

Just be prepared to walk fast -- just in case -- as Frankfurt Airport is huge, and most planes park on the runway and busses come to take you to the terminal.

We'll be landing there with 2 hrs to spare before catching our bus. I think we land in Terminal 1, then have to walk to Terminal 2 via Skyway, so not sure how many rounds of security/immigration we'll be going through.

Enjoy your trip!

You have to love the efficiency of Lufthansa. Our flight was late leaving BOS to Frankfurt by almost 2 hours. So even with a 2 1/2 hour connection, we were going to miss our connection before we made it to the gate. But after getting off the bus from the plane, there is a half dozen agents helping point everyone that missed connections. We just had to walk to terminal A, 5 minute walk to he service counter, and had our new boarding passes for the next flight that left in an hour.

Just an FYI, that if you miss connection in FRA, no stress.

I once flew LH with a connection (3.5 years ago) - it was from Salzburg to Tel Aviv, connecting in Vienna. The Salzburg flight that was delayed for ages because of fog in Salzburg. There were only 5 of us who were connecting to TLV. LH had people waiting for us at the landing gate to expedite our transfer through security, immigration and then a van to the TLV plane they were holding for us. Some of the people on the Vienna flight gave us "dirty" looks, as if we'd been dawdling in duty free or something and that's why their departure was delayed. I don't remember exactly, but I'll bet we were at least an hour late leaving Vienna.

LH has another 3-4 flights to Barcelona after that. Worst case - either you go on the next flight or you make the connection but your luggage doesn't.
