Hello, I'm flying from Chicago to Zurich (UA), then connecting to Florence Italy (LX). I'm not sure if I will go through passport control/immigration in Switzerland or at my final destination of Florence. The flight was sold as a connection between ZRH-FUR, with only 1 hour connection time (fortunately, I'm in row 20). Thank you.

Customs is for declaring goods.

I'm flying similar in September, but with ORD-ZRH on LX9. You enter Schengen zone in Zurich. Assuming everything is one one ticket, your bags should be checked through to Florence.
I'm told Zurich is pretty efficient and a 1 hour connection should be fine.
