Comfortable, Not Too Nerdy Shoes for Extra Wide Feet

We are taking our two sons, ages 19 and 15 to Germany in September. The older one wears 12-1/2 extra wide shoes. The younger one has wide feet, too but his feet are a bit smaller. Any ideas for where to purchase really comfortable and wide walking shoes that will pass muster with a 19 year old? Half our time will be in cities, so hiking boots probably aren't the best choice.

Thanks a lot!

Oddball Shoes out of Portland has a pretty good selection. I've managed to keep my sons happy and comfortable. (We have 4 sons sizes 11, 11-1/2, 13 and 16!)

Thanks, but they don't seem to carry anything under size 14, at the moment. I never thought that I'd complain about not being able to find a shoe SMALL enough!

Try Zappos online. They have a huge selection of shoes in speical widths and offer free shipping both ways if you need to return them. I often order two or three different sizes and widths of one style, figure out which work best and return the others.

New Balance has wide shoes - it's almost exclusively what my family wears for our wide feet. I order NB shoes for my boys online. I can totally identify as my eldest wears a 15 4E.

LL Bean sells a number of their shoes in wide sizes. Your boys will probably like the Mountain Treads Low cut hikers. Their wide is very roomy.

My son has " hobbit" feet also, large(size 12 and he is only 15 and weights 120 pounds and is 5"11") and wide,, ( we say this in love, LOL ) . He is comfiest in runners( sneakers or whatever people call them) so we just get a new pair about 2 weeks before we go on a trip, long enough for him to "wear them in" but not long enough for them to look like nasty worn out sneakers.
We always buy leather with lots of ventilation holes, and he prefers the skate type style, which , if one is careful , can look somewhat decent as they come in black, tan, and other combinations of leather, so not glaring white tennis shoe look.
