Comfortable light weight shoes

We will be traveling in Spain and Switzerland in May. I want to pack lightly but really need suggestions for comfortable shoes. We will be doing lots of walking, but no hiking per se. I am a 64 woman and used to walking 5 miles or so per day, but I don't want to wear sneaks all the time. Any suggestions for light weight shoes for evening and possible walking during the day? Comfort and light weight are my criteria mainly. Thanks.

You can find an entire thread about comfortable walking shoes in the second section of the helpline. There are lots of suggestions there for you.

Where in Spain and Switzerland, exactly when and for how long? Both countries could have very similar or radically different terrain and temperatures depending on where and when you go.

There have been many, many threads on the forum on this topic. We all have our faves.

I like the Ahnu Montara boot for anywhere I go at any time. It is a very light weight waterproof yet breathable hiking boot. I need lots of support for my feet and ankles, which helps my posture, knees and back.

After a hard day of walking on cobblestones, pavement and often gravel, plus lots of standing and gawking both outdoors and inside, I am ready to switch to a different pair of shoes for the evening.

That second pair is sandals or flats, depending on where we are. My favorite brand for that pair is Abeo, sold by the Walking Co. They are not "dress up" shoes, just something else to give my feet a break.

I wear the heaviest or bulkiest shoes on the plane and pack the others, but I have no heavy shoes.

I am going to second the suggestion that you check out the shoe forum. ;). Also, I am going to second bringing a pair of sandals to wear as an alternate shoe at night. I have worn Finn Comforts wich are pricey, but had a good sole, great arch support and didn't slip around on my feet.

I took Sketchers Go Walk with me on the Germany, Austria, and Switerland tour last year and LOVED them, super comfotable and pretty light. They come in a variety of colors. I still wear them all the time around home, great shoes for all the European walking!

Take a look at Bzees by Naturalizer. They are extremely lightweight, function like sneakers, but come in styles like ballet flats, Mary Janes, and sandals.

Reebok shoes for playing Tennis. Black color. Those shoes might be stiff when they are new. Those shoes do not look like athletic shoes.

Hi, I wear Clark's only, anywhere, now. I'm wearing Clark's Wave to Sweden this year. I also like their Unstructured. I only take one pair of shoes, which I wear, and I have never needed more. I do have cheap rubber flip flops in my suitcase for iffy showers. W.

I only travel with the shoes I'm wearing. However, if you want a dressy flat with a good sole, take a look at the Sabrina brand. They are imported from Spain and have relatively thick soles that would offer some protection from cobblestones. They are the most comfortable flat I've found. However, I would not try to tour in them.

My last 3 summer trips to Europe, I've brought 2 pairs of sandals with me: Teva Tirra for light hiking in the Swiss alps and canoeing down the Dordogne river and a pair of Taos Trophy for walking everywhere. This year I'm thinking about bringing a pair of athletic shoes because I like the idea of closed toe shoes with a lot of support. I'm just not sure which sandal I will eliminate!
