colisseum

do I need to reserve tickets ahead of time for the coliseum? Or what is the best time to get in line if you have a Roma pass?

With a Roma card you just bypass the ticket buying line and go to the entrance. Since I suspect you are going sometime in the next four months go early (to minimize the heat factor) first to the Forum, then the Palatine Hill and then the Colosseum. These three sites count as ONE entry ticket on your Roma Card. Forum etc. open daily at 0830. If it rains the Forum may well be closed (to slick to be safe). If this happens you can still go the following day after seeing the Colosseum. Use the metro (for free with your Roma Pass). Borghese Gallery, Vatican (depending on where you're staying) take a taxi. Taxi's are metered and an efficient way to get from A to X (outside of rush hour). Make sure you have 2, 5, 10 & 20 Euro notes & coins. Also for a taxi say the meter reads 13.20 Euros, round up to 14 perhaps but not necessary. 13 Euros 20 cents - well, pay that if you wish. If your hotel calls you a cab there is an automatic additional fee (3.5 Euros I "think").
