Codeshare boarding passes

At the end of November I'll be flying SEA-AMS-VIE with the first leg on Delta and the second on KLM. The flights are booked as one ticket. The second flight is "Delta operated by KLM." Since I am claustrophobic I always book an extra seat next to me. Booking an extra seat seems (past experience) to block my ability to check-in online or at a kiosk. I have a 75 minute time frame at Schipol to make the KLM flight to Vienna. Here are my questions:

1) Will I be able to get a boarding pass from Delta in Seattle for the second/KLM portion of the flight?
2) Will I go through passport control in Amstersdam?
3) Will I go through customs separate from passport control in Amsterdam?

I assume my bags will be checked through from Seattle to Vienna and that I won't have to deal with them in Amsterdam. If you think otherwise, please let me know.

Thanks for any information you can provide. I'm trying to figure out whether to have my travel agent try to change the second flight. If I can get the boarding pass to Vienna in Seattle I should be OK. If not, standing in line in Amsterdam to get that boarding pass will likely cause me to miss my flight.

  1. You should. Don't know why not.

  2. YES, You will go through immigration in Amsterdam and customs in Vienna.

  3. NO Customs and immigration (passport control) are always separate functions. However, customs in Europe is a walk through the Green Door - nothing to declare. Far easier than returning to the US. You do immigration the first time you hit the Schengen zone and customs at your final stop IF checked through on a single ticket.

Thanks. My question regarding the boarding passes comes from not being able to get the second boarding pass in Seattle when I flew SEA-AMS-IST several years ago. I had to wait in line in AMS. Not sure if this is a codeshare issue or what.

Delta-KLM/Air France are closely co-ordinated across the Atlantic. You should be able to make your seat selections now on-line for the Delta flights. The European connections are a little more complicated. Here is what Delta's website says about the Vienna flight:
"This flight is operated by our partner, KLM, and the seat map for this flight is not available. After purchasing your flight, select your seat by visiting My Trips. Fees for seat selection may be applicable based on class of service, frequent flyer status, or days to departure."

You should have the flight and order information (or the travel agent certainly does.) If for some reason the
leg is not available on-line, phone Delta.

I'm not sure how long ago your flight was where you couldn't get your second boarding pass in advance. Many years ago I believe we never were able to get our second boarding pass in advance. But for many years now we always get it.
