Proper beer is already fizzy enough on its own and doesn't need extra added.

You have a point. I used to brew and bottle my own pale ale and there was no outside CO2 involved. Is it used somehow for the draft pours? How do they get it up from the keg in the basement to the tap?

Yes, the CO2 is used to push the beer from the kegs to the taps in most modern establishments by creating a positive pressure in the kegs.

I still think the hand pumped ales are a better flavor.

No impact whatsoever, just hyperbolic media nonsense as usual. Besides, all the beer I'm drinking at the moment doesn't require CO2 for carbonation.

actually the media are looking at this from completely the wrong angle, yeah beer may be affected but decent beer does no require co2.
I work in a medical research facility and we have been informed that our Dry Ice (solid Co2) supplies may be affected as from now, we are hoping to get our standing orders delivered this week but no guarantees ,we get around 200kg of dry Ice per week and this could seriously affect our ability to function properly , we also will not be able to send out the many samples to other research places all over the world.
At the moment we do not know how it will affect deliveries of Liquid co2 ( about 500Litres per month) or of bottle Co2.
Media seemed more concerned about beer but it goes a whole lot further than that.

well that is me being told that I will have to wait several days for my order of bottled C02 (liquid phase) that normally arrive next day.No dry ice delivered today and no idea if I will get any tomorrow.meeting tomorrow morning with all lab managers to discuss problems this is going to cause................... there could be tears before bedtime.

I did find one article that briefly mentioned the effects of dry ice shortage, but apparently the beer and soft drink supply is considered more newsworthy than the effect of medical and scientific equipment and supplies.

I hope what CO2 there is available can be quickly diverted from frivolity (drinks) to necessity (medicine and science).

So Coca Cola has shut down production along with two beers.

And Unclegus.

CO2 is apparently used in many other things, such as chicken processing. Disruption of our civilized existence is perhaps a bit easier than we realize. Wait until we have another Carrington Event (coronal mass ejection from the sun).
