Clothes for Paris & Provence in October

Hi. Can anyone tell me what kind of clothes to take for Provence in early October & Paris Oct 21 to 27th?

In Provence it's late summer and should be warm. In Paris expect it to be much cooler. Take clothes for layering. Rain is possible.

I just returned from Paris and even in Mid-Spetmeber nearly all the ladies were wearing some verion of a trench. It's the coat this year, and actually ver practical. One plus a a warm sweater would be great for layering in Paris.

My question too...Paris and Normandy in early October. Would a lined leather jacket and brolly suffice?

I find a shawl or a pashmina wrap endlessly useful--in a drafty plane, over jeans, over a dress, folded as a pillow on a train. Adds a surprising amount of warmth and a whole lot more style than a sweater or jacket, esp in France. Bon voyage!

Marie,
What is a "Brolly"? Did you mean "Brelly", meaning an umbrella? Sorry, never heard of this.

I'd scrap the lined leather jacket, though. Leather can be bulky and take up too much room in your carry-on, if you want to travel light. A jacket of lightweight, rain proof material with a removable liner and detachable hood might not be a bad idea.
Definitely dress in removable lightweight layers. I'd say limit jeans to one pair, if at all. Lightweight jeans in a darker colour have always served me well.

Don't let the warm Provencal weather fool you! Make sure you have a jacket for when the Mistral (Provencal wind) arrives ;-) It can be quite cool for a few days.

As for Paris, always be prepared for rain and variable temperatures. Have fun!

I am living in Tours, France right now, which is in the Loire Valley. I have noticed that when it gets cold here, it's more of a damp cold, versus a dry cold. It can get very humid. Not necessarily hot, but humid. A lot of women wear peacoats in France. As well as scarves. Scarves are a big thing here. It hardly ever snows, but it does rain, so an umbrella might be a good thing to pack. Hope this is helpful!

I agree - when I was in Paris a couple yrs. ago (it was December & in the 30s), the "uniform" seemed to be a wool peacoat. Fortunately, I'd seen them in London the year before & that was what I took (navy blue) - it was quite warm & coupled with an umbrella, I stayed dry (although it only rained one day in 2 weeks - we actually found Paris cold but crisp in December - when I'd get up at 6 in the morning to do my hour walk, it was freezing, but no frost on the ground or mist in the air - a WONDERFUL change from the Pacific Northwest . . . ). I had a pr. of cashmere lined leather gloves & bought a gorgeous scarf/muffler in Paris - so I stayed warm and at least I looked marginally fashionable! October may be warmer, but a lighter wool coat might work. Also, don't forget the pantyhose/tights to wear under your clothes, especially if you're out all day - you can get pretty cold!

I was in France from Paris to Marseille in October. We experienced rain, wind, and some sun in the South.
I would recommend a raincoat with a zip out lining.
Always, take an unbrella. Even in the heat of summer, it will sheild you from the strong rays of the sun. Enjoy!!
