Got a surprise in the mail today....
After almost ten years of waiting, I finally received my refund for that foreign transaction fee class action suit against the credit card companies a while back. A whopping $8.23! The drink (singular) is on me! The odd thing is that the refund is from American Express. I've never had an American Express card my life:)
Who's the lucky boy, then? Does that count as taxable income?
Ha, ha, I got $9.74; but maybe that's because I actually have an Amex card.
My husband and I each got one a couple weeks ago for $8.23. He has an Amex but I don't, so the whole thing was perplexing to us, too. The website listed on the check answered some questions, though. Anyway, if you are ever in Chicago we will buy you a drink (we'll have to combine our checks) or you could visit us up in Wisconsin, where each check will allow for 2 drinks. Gotta love rural life... Cheers!
I actually got two - one for $8.xx and the other was about $45. I had written it off as never coming. Another month I would not have received it. My mail forwarding order expires in August.
Yep, I got the $8.00-ish one, and one for $25 awhile back.
I've never had an AmEx account. I received two checks this year for $7.50 and $10.20. If it has been 10 years, that's too far back for me to remember much. I used to use credit cards (Capitol One) in Europe, so maybe it's based on that. I didn't notice who issued the checks.
Me too. Its been several weeks, but the 8.23 sounds about right. It was from AmEx and we do have an AmEx card. Funny thing is, I don't believe we've ever used the AmEx overseas; too expensive! I guess that was what the refund was all about.
Here's the website that is listed on the checks we received, in case anyone is interested in how this all came to be. Visa and MC were involved somehow, too, but who really cares, we're all rich now: http://www.ccfsettlement.com
I got $8.23 also from AX. Whoopee!
I got $8.23 also, but I can't find a place here where I can get a decent glass of wine for that amount. I had filled out a form so long ago I had forgotten about it. And while I haven't had any AMEX card, I checked the class action web site and saw that other financial entities were defendants in related cases.
I got one too a few weeks ago ... about $36 ... that will definitely cover a couple of drinks.
I got $8.23, too. The same week, a friend of mine (who has never, ever set foot outside the US) got one too. She has ordered books from the UK a couple of times, so we figured that was the reason. The ATM rejected my check. I had to go inside the credit union to have a teller okay it.
I got a check for $8.23 yesterday. I have a vague memory of filling something out years ago. I'm thinking I can probably find a suitable bottle of wine for $8.23 to celebrate. Or a couple of bottles of Belgian beer.
I got some $92! And I have never had an Amex card either. But I got a bigger amount, $400 or $500, three or four years ago from the bigger settlement (the time to turn in the amounts came at a time when I was jobless and could do the research on every last penny I'd charged overseas, which also included a big chunk of time I was living overseas). Don't know what this last "bonus" is, but I'll take it. Will feed my U.S. Kindle habit!
