Cirrus versus Star Plus

Our credit card is in the Cirrus network but our debit card is Star Plus. WIll we have any difficulty using the credit card in England, France, and Prague? We did face some difficulty in buying train tickets from the Eurostar British website.

Thanks

You shouldn't have any problems. When using your debit card at ATMs, once in a while you will encounter machines that are only affiliated with only the Visa affilated networks, others only with MC networks. If this happens just go to another bank across the street and you will be back in business.

Cirrus is a logo owned by Mastercard. Plus is a logo owned by Visa. Star is a processing network owned by First Data. If you have Cirrus or Plus, you should be fine.

Agree, you should not have a problem.

Wait a minute !!! The credit card will be fine. But the STAR network is ONLY available in the US and Canada. The Star Plus is confusing. Does James mean that the debit card is both PLUS and STAR? If that is the case, then the debit card would be fine. STAR alone -- no go.

Both are BOA Visa. The debit has a star, a plus, and an interlink logo on it while the credit card only has cirrus on it. I used both of them last year in Italy without any problem but had some problems buying rail tickets from the british eurostar website last week.

Thanks.

James, your BofA debit card is a combo ATM/debit and limited Visa card. Your Visa purchases are limited to your daily withdrawl limit. I have one just like it. Your credit card with the Cirrus logo is a Mastercard. I believe that Frank is correct about any ATM card with the STAR logo only. It's only good in the U.S. and Canada. However, in combination with the other logos you mention, you should be fine.

If it has either a visa or mastercard logo on the card, you will be able to use virtually every ATM.
