Some of our members may be on this trip now! This just happened today 9/11.
I tried to send a link, but it didn't work. You can google for details. From what I know so far, no one was hurt, but there are some long delays because of this fire.
For people that don't know, "Chunnel" is not a typo. They really do call it that over there.
Actually, it is called the Euro Tunnel or Channel Tunnel. It is you people 'over there' that call it the Chunnel. ;-)
There are three tunnels. One for the Eurostar, car/lorry passenger train service and a service tunnel.
It was a lorry that overturned on the train and leaked a toxic substance. Minor injuries but huge suspension of services.
Trains en route to on either side told passengers the complication and were asked to make alternate arrangements.
Sounds like it will be first come first serve tomorrow morning!
Here's the link to the story. Eurostar canceled service for the rest of the day (Thursday): story on Chunnel fire
Thank you both for the replies.
Nice to have someone from London correcting me! I wonder why Americans call it "Chunnel." Oh well. You gave us some good information here, and Kent, thanks for the link. Yours works!
