we are thinking of traveling to Europe from the US for Christmas with our four kids ages 2, 4, 10 & 11. We normally go to Hawaii for the holiday, but wanted to do something different this year and would love any recommendations. I need somewhere kid friendly. Thanks!
Your answer is: www.kinderhotels.com
They are incredible hotels suited for kids. Skiing, awesome pools, great buffets, some have farm animals, etc. Book early, though, the Christmas/New Year's holidays are quite busy. We've stayed in many across Austria and Italy, loved every single one!
No matter what you do, your kids are lucky! I loved London at Christmas time, though I was not there during the holiday but a bit earlier. There is a lot to do, like ice skating and seeing Christmas pantomimes. If your kids have never experienced Christmas in a big city, it's something to consider.
Paris is very kid friendly and a wonderful place to spend Christmas. Paris has been my son's favorite place since he was 11. I'd recommend renting an apartment.
What do you and your kids want to do? Do you want to ski? (The Alps) Do you want to visit sites of historical significance? (Rome, Athens...) Want to see the Mediterranean Sea even if it'll be too cold to swim in it? (Cote d'Azur) Or do you want to bring Christmas to life? (Lapland for the North Pole experience, Germany for the Christmas markets) Paris and London are also kid friendly and would offer lots of things to do.
Dawn, Will you adopt me? I'm 62 years old, but I pickup after myself, wash dishes, keep my room clean! Seriously, your children are so blessed to be able to share the holidays in Europe! Be sure to watch the Rick Steves video on Christmas in Europe, it will give you some great ideas.
Thank you for all of the tips! I don't think we will ski this visit, my 2 year old probably wouldn't be thrilled if I leave her in ski school all day :) Thanks!
