Three months more and it’s Christmas already! It’s expected that malls will be filled with a lot of shoppers and gift items will be in demand! This is the culture of thousands of families but mine is a little laid back. We go on a vacay to a foreign country and spend the rest of Christmas season to that place. Last year, we went to Maldives and now I’m thinking about taking the family to Europe! I heard there’s a lot of good places to visit there! Do you have any suggestions? Your comments are very much appreciated!
By comparison to the Maldives, everywhere in Europe will be cold and also have short daylight periods, so best to go for cities. You might want to try somewhere with specific Christmas events, like Christmas markets in German-speaking countries.
One thing that always catches someone on the boards out - there is NO public transport in London on Christmas Day, so don't plan to travel into or out of London then.
Other than the transportation issues, London is a great Christmas destination-we went in 2014 and our daughter liked it better than our trip to NY in 2016.
Well, it's no longer a separate country, but Hawaii at Christmas was a big favorite. Warm tropical breezes, recordings of "Mele Kalikimaka" wafting from stores.
But ... as to Europe, we have visited (over several trips, wrapped in parkas and boots) Paris, Strasbourg, Colmar, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Vienna, Munich, Nürenburg, Würzburg, Budapest.
Rome by far my Christmas favorite.
Berlin. Good Christmas markets, interesting museums, good food and great public transport.
There are wonderful Christmas Markets all over Europe for almost the whole month of December. I have been to several of them. Looks like you are looking for warmer climes? If you do go to Europe here is a link to the Christmas Markets.
I went on a tour one year that went to 5 or 6 different countries and many Christmas Markets..... it was wonderful

Plenty of interesting places in Mexico (I don't mean the all-inclusive beach resorts, more like lively colonial cities). I went to Merida, Yucatan 2 years ago and it was lovely, but obviously hot. There are other options: Mexico City, Oaxaca, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, etc.
(Ooops, I just realized you asked about Europe...but I still think Mexico is a great alternative)
