Christmas help

Hello,

I had a trip planned that included a stay in Paris Dec 24- 27. Travel restrictions have been placed on Paris that now make that impossible.

So I how have a 3 day hole in my plans. I will be in Berlin Dec 18 - 24 and in Amsterdam Dec 27-Jan 2

Alternatives
Go to Amsterdam early ~100 /person
Go anywhere else in EU then to Amsterdam on Dec 27 ~200-250 /person
I am considering Prague, Munich, Vienna, Budapest, Rome.
Want a fun/festive destination that will have things to do/places to eat on Christmas Eve/Day.
Gay friendly would be nice since this is our honeymoon and we are losing Paris…….

Thank You

What are the "travel restrictions placed on Paris that now make that impossible." ? I haven't heard of any and am curious...

Edit: For DOD personnel... okay...

Of your list I lean in this order
First Budapest of course
2nd Vienna (because you can get to Budapest in 2.5 hours if you get bored)
3rd Prague
4th Munich
5th Rome. I have spent some days in December and I have spent New Years in Rome and neither experience was particularly good.

Its getting close so you will have to hit the ground running to make plans. If you choose Budapest I can probably help you with accommodations and things to see and do. I enjoy Budapest at Christmas.

No I'm a contractor. Kind of bemused right now. I made the hotel reservations I'm about to cancel in February.

Anyways...... I am looking for someplace where I will not greatly offend if I slip up and call my husband, husband, in public. That has interesting things to see and do, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Right now Hungary is very stable in the face of what is going on. A lot has to do with them closing their borders to migrants early on, So there would be a lower chance of more disruptions.

Budapest is sort of a dichotomy. The Hungarian government is pretty conservative. Sometimes that works (like with when it comes to national security) other times it is a nuisance. That's one half. On the other side, those under 30, like in any western city are very tolerant of differing cultures, lifestyles, etc. and Budapest I am told has a pretty healthy gay community. But the world is full of bad individuals. I wouldn't reject Budapest. Personally I think its the most beautiful of the bunch and I really doubt you will have any more trouble than you would in Kansas City. I will be ashamed if I am wrong.

AND, if the DoD will let you change planes at Paris Chucky D airport then you can keep the tickets you have now. You can fly Chucky D to most of the places you named relatively inexpensively.

While not Gay themed, but by the time you get there you will be an old married couple, Germany and Central Europe for me at least capture the season well. I've spent a Christmas in London and it was "okay" but I enjoyed Christmas in Vienna, Prague and Budapest a little more. But you are right in that these are not big Gay scene cities.

I don't know what they are like at Christmas, but I was in Madrid and Barcelona in September 2015, and there were a fair number of gay couples holding hands on the street (more than I see in New York). You're already going to Berlin and Amsterdam, which I agree are great places period, and especially for gay people (and Berlin has a fascinating gay history - it was the real birthplace of gay rights movements as we understand them today). But you shouldn't have trouble in any large city, like the ones you mentioned.
