Christmas Day in Paris

Hello!
We are first time travelers to Paris and will be in Paris 12/20 - 12/26....Guidebooks mention that all is quiet on Christmas Day. We will go to Midnight mass on Christmas eve. What are your suggestions for Christmas Day? Also we would like to enjoy a special yet cost friendly Christmas lunch say $40 Euro per person (myself and two college age children). Thanks for the feedback:-)

Wendy,

Yes, it is very quite Christmas Day. I would recommend researching what is open that day before you set out. I know that there are a couple of museums open from what I can remember. It might be a good day just to walk the city and visit the cathedrals.

Hi Kate,

Thanks for the feedback! We have a couple of guidebooks and will follow up accordingly. I thought we would receive more feedback...perhaps I posted on the wrong board.

Happy Holidays!

Christmas day might be a good day for walking. Paris is gorgeous during the Christmas season. I think you will find the overall décor much more stylish and tasteful than what we experience on this side of the pond (ie, no giant inflatable snow globes, light-up reindeer, etc).

For a meal, difficult to make a recommendation without knowing where you plan to stay. Certainly, many restaurants remain open on December 25th, but many also close for the day. Name a neighborhood, and perhaps we can make suggestions? You may have to contact the restaurants to verify that they'll be open.

I was in Paris a couple of years ago on Christmas. We did Christmas mass at Notre Dame and the Pompidou was open Christmas day. I am not a huge fan of modern art but it was actually quite interesting. As for eating, we had no plans but just wandered around and found restaurants that were open. Our biggest problem was on Christmas Eve we waited too late to eat. Most of the restaurants closed early that night.
