I just learned that everything in Europe is often closed for Christmas and Boxing day. However, I am having some friends visit me and I did not realize this, and was hoping to take a trip somewhere during those times. Are there any good places to travel or be in Europe during Christmas and Boxing day where things will be open and there will be stuff to do? Help!
All things open during Christmas? Turkey, Morocco, Tunesia (Muslim countries). Germanwings fly there from Cologne, Ryanair from Weeze (half way between Düsseldorf and Arnheim) or Hahn (half way between Frankfurt and Luxembourg). Also check Transavia.com. How about a trip to the Eiffel mountains just across the border on the German side? Walks thru a Winterwonderland, seeing old castles (from the outside) etc.?
I was in Paris one year for Christmas and found lots of areas in the muslim and orthodox quarters open.
Also hotels still functions and skiing and outside activities are always open.
