Check Museum Websites for Downloadable Floor Plans and Status of Free-Entry Periods

I've noticed here in DC that museum floor plans are rarely available on site at the moment. I guess it's a COVID safety precaution, or maybe it's partly financial. In any case, you can't count on picking up something that will help you navigate the building (or the National Arboretum, for that matter). I see there's a similar notice on the website for the Accademia in Venice. There's a nice downloadable map you can either put on your smartphone or print out and take with you.

If you're headed to any large museums this year and like to have something to help you navigate, I recommend checking the websites for floor plans and other useful information you might normally expect to find on handouts.

Note also that free-admission periods may have gone by the boards, at least temporarily, At this time the Accademia in Venice has suspended its practice of offering free admission on the first Sunday of the month.

Interesting about your local museums and about what you are seeing for Venice.

I was just looking at museums in Paris to check times, etc and went ahead and downloaded the app for Musee Carnavalet. This one seems fairly exasperating as it doesn't seem to be able to keep it on the English choice and I can't find the map yet. Since they have not reopened yet, perhaps there will be an update to the app. I'll check the other museums for apps as well. The apps I used a couple of years ago for Rijksmuseum and the Mauritshuis in Den Haag had excellent maps on the app. The Rijksmuseum also had a locator function which was very helpful as I do get turned around in there, lol. Yea to wifi in museums!

I wonder if they've cut the free admission periods because they were so jammed? I do not blame them, both for spreading out crowds and frankly for collecting admission fees from everyone.

Pam — it sounds like their website person needs an upgrade !!! Surely job #1 for a museum’s website is to correctly reflect whether it is open or not !!
