Check in Euro

To put a deposit on an apartment in Paris, I need to send them a check in Euro. Can I do this through my bank, or is there a service that would help me do that? Thanks in advance!!

I suggest that you open an account with www.xe.com/fx and have a bank draft in euros mailed to the landlord. I use my account to send money to relatives in the UK and to pay deposits at B&Bs that don't accept credit cards. Money is taken from my checking account by electronic transfer, a bank draft is issued in the currency of my choice, and is mailed (postal service) directly to the recipient of my choice. The exchange rate is only slightly higher than the international rate on the day the transaction is initiated and there are no other fees. For security purposes it takes a little time and effort to set up an account, but everything goes smoothly and swiftly after that. XE will also do wire transfers, but they are more expensive.

I wonder if you could use a Paypal account to send a check... I buy on German Ebay all the time and Paypal automatically converts my payment into Euros.

Commercial banks can give you a cashier's check issued in Euros. All banks look alike but almost all of the big banks are commercial banks.

My bank was able to issue a check in pounds for a trip I took where charge cards weren't possible. There may have been a small fee, but it wasn't bad as it was my bank.
