Imram, Which parts of Italy are you planning to visit? The easiest solution would be to fly into either Milan or Rome, and start your trip there. Depending on the flight connections from your area, that may involve a connecting flight from one of the large "hub" airports such as Frankfurt. If Greece is your last stop, depart home from Athens. The easiest and quickest travel method from Italy to Greece is a flight from Rome to Athens. I used EasyJet on that route last year, and it was a very pleasant flight. Happy travels!

Hi Imran. You'll have to do research on a site like Kayak.com and see what's cheapest. I also recommend flying into one country and out of another to prevent backtracking (this option is called "multi-city" on Kayak). Plug in Houston to Rome and Athens to Houston, for example, or Houston to Athens and Rome to Houston. You could also play around with different flights out of the U.S. It might be significantly cheaper for you to fly out of New York or Chicago, even with the cost of traveling to and from your departure city on a different ticket.

I was thinking the same, to fly into Milan and then Vience, Pisa and Rome. then catch a flight to Athens and then visit few places in Greece and then fly bakc to Houston from Athens. air fair is coming around 1800 plus 200 for flight between Rome to Athens (via frankfert). i am thinking about get a rent a car to drive from milan-Vience-Pisa-Rome.

I would consider taking trains between some of these cities. From Milan to Venice, Venice to Pisa or Rome, Pisa to Rome. If you haven't been to Italy before, train travel allows you to see the countryside without having to find your way in a car. Each of these train trips takes a few hours (check the Trenitalia or Bahnde websites). From Italy to Greece deserves a plane ride. It's quicker and easier IMO.

It pays to have a fare alert with Kayak. Last summer it was cheaper to fly into Germany instead of AMS. And it was only a one hour train ride to my destination in The Netherlands.

you will have to check all your flight options, of course flying in to Italy and out of Greece makes sense flights into Rome or Milan would be your best bets for Italy portion use trains to get around Italy airfares for Aug 2012 are high right now, there could be a drop in prices but nobody knows
get fare alerts, watch flights daily to find the best deals
