cheapest countries to fly into?

What are the cheapest countries to fly into from Oregon, USA? Any suggestions when to buy them? We are going to Europe Spring (April-May) 2014. Are those good months to go? What will the weather be like all over from Greece to Spain to England and all between? Thank you!

From Portland, Oregon, the only direct flight to Europe is on Delta to Amsterdam. Schiphol is a fantastic airport, and you can transfer to other flights to virtually anywhere you want to go to. The city center is just 20 minutes away by train from the airport, and it's an easy city to deal with since English is universally spoken. April and May are my favorite months to tour Europe. The weather in the Mediterranean (in the south) should be really good. England? Who ever knows what the weather's going to be there. Your question should be where will my Yankee Dollar will go the farthest. The German airports and Amsterdam are more reasonable. You will get better travel values outside the large cities, and over in Poland, Prague, Budapest: The East.

If you are thinking beach holiday in Greece in April, it may not be warm enough then , the water will still be cold, Greece is not a tropical destination. They have winter.
So, while touring about would be lovely I would go late April through May and enjoy Greece later for beach time if that is what you thinking.. England, it will rain. I have been 4 times. Three times in either July or August, and it has always rained with some decent interludes.. . I went in March once and it sleeted..and was very cold and wet. Others have likely had different experiences as weather is so unpredictable. I have gone to Paris in late May and been freezing, and literally had hot weather 4 days later.. I went once in August where it rained and was cool 7 out of 9 days, then heated up. Good luck. Bring a warm lined rain jacket, and good shoes . lol If you go to England in April throw in a fleece or sweater, and gloves.

Oh ., yes, this past summer ( arrived July 16th) we went to Europe for 26 days. We flew into Amsterdam. It was cool and rainy for our first two days, ( i wore my fleece and rain jacket) , we then left Amsterdam , arrived in Paris, where it heated up and the next 24 days ( between Paris, Nice and Spain) were DARN HOT!!!

Courtney, I see you've posted several very general questions about European travel. These are very hard to answer in the 2000 character limit of this Helpline, and some are hard to answer, period. So, get yourself a copy of Rick Steves Europe Through The Back Door, right away. It has lots of information about the "nuts and bolts" of travel. Then, if you have more specific questions, post them here. "What should I see in Europe?" is no more answerable than "what should I see in the US?" But "I'm looking at two hotels in Paris for the same price, which one is better?" or "I'm interested in castles near Cardiff, can anyone recommend their favorites?" are questions that people can really help with.

The East European countries like Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, are less expensive than Western Europe and offer a lot in terms of historical and cultural heritage, England generally is more expensive than Greece and Spain. April May are an excellent time to visit all over Europe, "What will the weather be like all over from Greece to Spain to England and all between?" I live in Europe and to answer this question I would need a crystal ball!!!. I hope in a warm and a little rainy spring.

"What are the cheapest countries to fly into from Oregon, USA? Any suggestions when to buy them?" Both of these will vary. And just because there is a nonstop flight from PDX to AMS, that doesn't mean this is the cheapest flight to Europe. You may find, for instance, that flying from PDX through AMS to WAW (Warsaw) or IST (Istanbul) is cheaper, even though it's farther. There are lots of threads here about how old principles, like "book 60 days out for best airfares," no longer apply. So, what you want to do is research airfares about 6 months out, so you'll know what the base fares are. When you see a lower price that you want, book it IMMEDIATELY to avoid losing it; these fares can last less than an hour, and there are also threads here about people who weren't ready and lost out just hours later. Then, once you've booked, don't look back. To start researching the madness and unpredictability that is the current airfare "system," use http://www.kayak.com. "We are going to Europe Spring (April-May) 2014. Are those good months to go?" Generally yes. The days are lengthening, the weather is reasonably good, and it's not the height of tourist season. A big exception is Easter (not sure when it falls in 2014), as things are closed and, in certain areas like Italy, there are crowds. And May 1 is European Labor Day, a major holiday. Obviously, you need to look into specifics of any place you're considering (there may be a local holiday or festival, which you may want to see - or avoid). "What will the weather be like all over from Greece to Spain to England and all between?" What will the weather be in spring 2014, from California to Washington State to Colorado and all in between? The answer for Europe is the same <g>.
