Chase Travel or Direct Airline Purchase

Traveling to Europe from US in July. I am using a Chase Preferred Card - lots of points if I book through Chase Travel vs direct United Airlines. Concerned how that works if flights delayed or connections missed. Thx

We have a Chase card and have booked flights via Chase Travel; however, flights are typically on Delta.

Chase Travel works great until you want to change something before the flight. While we changed a flight via the Delta app it was not confirmed until we spent over an hour on the phone with Chase Travel. It was resolved, but it was a pain and quite stressful. Because of this, we typically book directly with Delta.

While I think this is your primary question - what if the flight is delayed or a connection is missed? I think at that point, it would be just you and the airline since you will have already checked in with the airline.

Thank you. We are arriving two days ahead of our RS tour meet up so should be fine. I think we will chance it then because as you said once we have checked in, it should be with airline.

Chase is a third party and things can get complicated with third parties. Advice has always been to book directly with the airline and especially right now!

While I agree with the advice to book directly with the airline, I will book third party (Chase or Amex) when the flight will be free on points. It’s always been fine. The last time we had to reschedule mid-trip due to a problem elsewhere in our trip, we had to fix the flight through the third-party travel agent and got exactly what we wanted. The extra burden and risk of the middle man is worth it to me for free tickets. But I never do it paying cash.

Thank you for all the good advice. It is my fist at time using card so the points will be for next trip. I can still buy the tickets with card - just do not receive as many.
