I am visiting Paris in June and will be taking a day trip to Chartres. I would like to continue from Chartres by a local inter-city bus service to Amboise or Blois, where I would stay overnight, and then visit Chenonceau the next day and return to Paris. Is this relatively easy to do? Or must I return from Chartres to Paris on the train, swtich train lines to Tours, then train or bus (available?) to Amboise. Has anyone tried this?
Chenonceau is out in the country, about 10 miles from town. Thus one planning issue for you is getting from the train station to the chateau.
According to the timetables on the German Rail site, your fastest route (about 2 1/2 hours) is Chartres - Paris Montparnasse - St-Pierre-des-Corps - Amboise. All trains. No bus. Leave Amboise at 09:21, connect in St-Pierre-des-Corps, and arrive at Chenonceaux at 10:30. All trains.
