Charging availability on transatlantic flights

Can anyone tell me if there are charging ports for I phones, I pads, etc on the planes for transatlantic flights? We are flying US Airways.

If you go to www.seatguru.com with your flight # and date it will show you what aircraft is used on that flight and if there are power ports or not.

United provides regular AC outlets in economy class on most the flights they inherited from the Continental merger. Which means flights to Europe from Newark, and Houston on 757s and 777s. 767s don't have outlets in economy.

If flying coach I know of no airlines that provides charging ports. Available only in bus and first class.

Electric outlets are rare in coach, on any airline and route. They do exist, however; I remember people who told me that when flew Continental from Tel Aviv to Newark, there were outlets in coach. And I saw some on Turkish Air, on one of my planes (not the other way, as they used different plane models). But USB charging ports, which work for iDevices, are becoming more common. I have had them on Aeroflot, Air France, and Air Berlin (all Airbus planes out of JFK). They are part of the AVOD system these airlines have installed on these planes (Audio Video On Demand, where you have a screen at every seat that you can control, starting and stopping teh movie, music, etc as you wish). I don't believe US Airways has put in AVOD, much less USB, and much less full electric outlets, in coach. But check Seat Guru. And do remember, even if you are promised power at your seat, you may end up flying a different model of plane (this is what happened to me with Turkish Air, above). The airlines can and do change planes on a route, for a variety of reasons.

Con, As Harold mentioned, I've noticed that some flight have USB ports at every seat, so that will allow charging of some types of devices in flight. Whether you'll have power available may depend on what type of U.S. Airways aircraft you get. On long haul flights, I typically use either Air Canada or KLM, and I believe both of those have at least USB ports available (but I can't remember for sure, as I wasn't really looking for them). Good luck and happy travels!

The delta, USair, and United flights I have taken in the past did not offer such thing in coach/economy comfort. It seems first class gets all the perks. I have taken delta past 3 years and no place to plug in my ipad plugs. I flew usair 4 years ago, they may have upgraded their plug in capability since, but I am not certain.

American has electric plugs on some of their planes in economy -- some are regular 110 volt plugs and others are 12 volt cigarette lighter types. Not every row has the plugs. Seatguru.com show all that.
