centrally located hotel(s) in Luxembourg for sightseeing w/o a car

Will be in Luxembourg following a river cruise and would like to explore this city on our own. Heard from friends that it is a lovely city (country) and would like to spend a few days there before departure home. Anyone who has been there and has any suggestions would be most welcome and appreciated.

adrianne,

i was there in 2013 and stayed @ Hotel Bristol. Its about 2 blocks south-southwest of the train station. off the main drag so the noise wasnt bad. its sort of in an ethnic area but i found it fine. You can google map it and see if its "central" enough for you. if i remember correctly they had an really small elevator too.

I walked to everywhere i went even though you could take a bus.

also, i really enjoyed it and hope to make it back some day. also, the bus that goes to the airport stops near the train station.

happy trails

We can highly recommend the town of Ettelbruck, if you are open to staying outside of Lux City and interested in exploring the countryside. It is a charming little town and transportation hub for trains and buses. You can travel anywhere within Luxembourg for 4 euros per person per day on any public transportation. So you can easily visit Diekirch, for the amazing WWII museum; Clervaux, for the Family of Man photographic exhibit, and Vianden, for the castle. Plus Lux City, of course.

We actually based in Diekirch on our visit last fall but Ettelbruck would have been better. I don't have a hotel recommendation but look for something near the bus/train station and you'll be fine.
