Central Europe Tour Guides

We're looking for recommendations from people who've used these, for 5 day personal attention small group or private tours in both Prague and Budapest. We want to see all the major sights worth seeing and not have to worry about booking everything on our own. We want someone as proficient as Chris Skutela is in Krakow., who will provide door to door transportation, is knowledgable and an expert guide, will book all admissions and arrangements, and will specialize the tour for us. Thanks so much in advance!

PS: We will be there late September until 10/10/26.

I understand completely. I go to the Balkans for what is working out to be at least twice a year and despite all the trips and the supposed knowledge, I still hire someone to plan the trip for me and take care of my getting from A to B. I don’t have to do this, but it sure is easier and, outside of Croatia, it’s so inexpensive that I can afford it.

I posted a name a few days ago. I haven’t ever used her, but she came well recommended so I threw out her name a few times over the past couple of years and everyone that used her came back with very good reviews. I haven’t used here because I have been coming here several times a year for about 20 years before I just stayed. Except for some very specialized things (wine, vineyards for the most part), I am comfortable enough to go without a guide. If the Balkans or Romania or Bulgaria or Ukraine are on your travel list, I do know exceptional guides in each of them. Exactly what you want.

If you want a guide for a wine event, I can help you with that. I will send you a PM with that one. You will be there for the Castle Wine Festival and for the Jewish Cultural Festival, so forget the guide, buy your tickets soon.

Thank you so much CL and Mr. É! We are checking out these recommendations. I especially appreciate the notification about the Jewish Cultural Festival in Budapest, however it goes from 8/30 to 9/10. We are there from 10/4 to 10/10. So sorry to miss this.

I used Chris Skutela in Krakow and liked him a lot. For Prague, I would recommend checking with Michal at Real Prague Tours. Like Chris, he is a younger guide who is a native of his country (my favorite kind of guide is a native proudly showing off his country). Michal's father was a communist party member in Czechoslovakia times; his mother's family lost the family farm to collectivization by the communists. Michal is super interesting guy who is happy to share insights into Czech life and history. I used four guides in Prague; he was head and shoulders above the rest.
