My T-Mobile, GSM, un-locked, has worked fine in Hungary, Czech Rep., Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland: Will it work the same in Ireland. If not, why not?

Your GSM, unlocked tri-band phone should work fine in ANY of the GSM countries. However, if you only have one of the Euro frequency bands, you may find coverage a bit "limited" in some areas. Which frequencies is the phone equipped with?
You didn't say if you would be using roaming with T-Mobile, or buying a local SIM when you arrive?
