Will be traveling in both Ireland and Northern Ireland for 10 days in October. Can anyone give me some ideas on what to use for a cell phone while there? I know my current phone is not an option. Any insights would be helpful!
Your best bet might be to purchase an inexpensive cellphone once you get there, and buy prepaid minutes for it. If you are with Verizon, they have a program where you can essentially "borrow" a GSM phone for use there, but the cost per-minute is higher than if you buy prepaid. If you plan to use the phone a lot, it could get expensive with that method. The cheapest method for calling home, though, is usually to buy a calling card at any convenience store and use it at a payphone. Buy the smallest denomination that you can.
Michele, there are bunches and bunches of questions (and responses) here about cell phones. You might also check out these threads in the "To the North" sub-forum (they both have basically the same name): Cell phones in Ireland And Cell phones in Ireland
