For our upcoming trip to Europe, I am thinking of buying a data plan only from my cell carrier and likely making just a few Skype calls when not in wifi contact....such as in transit and need to alert our hotel we'll be a little late. I can purchase 100MB data for $25 and per the Skype website, calls to cellphones and landlines cost about 1MB data/minute plus pennies/minute for Skype. This seems a fairly easy way to make the odd call and not have to fuss with purchasing a sim card, etc. Did I miss something?

AT&T and T-Mobile have international plans now that are pretty good. The T-Mobile has unlimited data in Europe and 20 cent per minute phone calls. I have T-Mobile so I tossed all my other SIM cards and unlocked phones. I still use WIFI calling when I have WIFI access. It's a whole new world with these international deals.
