For our rental car CDW, we always get the AmEx "Premium Rental Car Protection Plan" when renting a car (pick up/drop off in Germany) with our AmEx Card. We are also looking to purchase an "AIG Travel Guard Gold" trip insurance plan. Is the AmEx CDW needed in this case? Anyone use either or both?

We are planning a 4 week drive tour of England and Wales next year and plan to use our AmEx car rental plan as well. Haven't decided on trip insurance. Why did you pick AIG?
I haven't decided yet, but I went to www.insuremytrip.com and did some comparisons. My main concern is if one of us gets sick or injured bad enough and the trip needs to be cancelled, so we will get reimbursed for the money we spent on airfare, etc. Next is if one of us gets sick or injured and needs medical attention while in Europe and Heaven forbid that one of us needs to be MedEvac back to the States.

Hi Paul,
I do know that you can add on many things to your policy including insuring a car rental, with some policies. But, for the low cost of the AmEx coverage, I would use it. Most of the insurance policies do not cover a car unless you add that for an additional fee. Look under the "additional benefits".
Maybe I'm not finding the exact policy but when I input our travel plans into insuremytrip and chose the "AIG Travel Guard Gold" policy you are looking at it does NOT have a medical waiver available. I know you are wanting that. Maybe I'm wrong? But, double check it before you buy.
