CC declined because its "Canadian"

Hi, tried booking a iDTGV ticket Paris-Nice last night, wouldn't go through, kept being declinded. Phoned my bank, they hadn't even been contacted and there was no block put on by them.
Got a email from iDTVG saying they accept cards from States, EU, but not other countries! I only have Canadian cards,, any ideas on how to proceed? Interestingly, had no problem with Easyjet or Vueling and my CC!

Pat, I'm assuming that your card is either Visa or MasterCard, so it's very odd that they would refuse credit cards from those affiliations. In the same situation, these are the alternatives that I'd try: > Try with a different credit card > Try an agency other than iDTGV > Enlist the services of a Travel Agent > Buy the ticket when you arrive in Paris, either at CDG or at one of the SNCF Boutiques (are you travelling directly to Nice or will you be in Paris for a few days?) Good luck and happy travels!

I had a similar problem trying to book a train ticket in England; it would not take my Visa card no matter how many times I tried! However it did take my Mastercard...so definitely try a different card.

pat, I had a problem with booking a rail ticket in the U.K. last year. Clearing the cache in the computer seemed to solve the problem. It's a "long shot", but you might give that a try. Good luck!

Pat, I'm posting a link to a rather lengthy post about idTGV and rejection of Canadian credit cards. http://tinyurl.com/7snzkwz If you scroll down to post #10, it seems the CC was blocked from the purchase of idTGV tickets but not the regular TGV PREMS tickets. There is a lot more information. Good Luck.

Tried everything, iDTGV send me an email saying they instructed the company that processes the charges to make an exception and accept a transaction for my card ,, tried again, nothing. Phoned my cc again as i noticed the seats I picked appeared occupied( in otherwise empty car) after this, and my cc said an attempt was made but that the charge submitted was for zero dollars! The cc company said they think their system is just incompatible with ours.

pat, Just for "future reference", which Bank is your credit card with? Do you have another card that you could try? As someone else suggested, you could try Rail Europe. I'd also speak with a Travel Agent as they might be able to make the booking for you. Good luck!

Ken, I have tried my card which is a TD Visa,, and my friends card, which is a Royal Bank Visa. The thing is, used my card for our flights on Vueling and Easyjet and had no problem with them there!

It's the Canadian "eh?" at the end of every sentence. The computer reads the 16 digit card number, and then invalidates it because it says "A" at the end. Seriously, though, I was unable to buy a concert ticket online. I'd notified my bank of the upcoming charges. It seemed to have more to do with their end than my bank. I think it might have something to do with the security codes or address verification. I just gave up and was able to buy a ticket when I got there, but I imagine you want your train ticket booked.

Karen,, that , was a good one! lol Seriously have tried all suggestions, the only one that may work it the TGV site, but I am still not 90 days from date to book, so can't go through with sale to see for sure. Looks like I will have to wait. Will also try a few friends cards over next week or two. Its just so annoying when you see the great rates for early booking!

Pat, remember that you'll need to produce the credit card with your ticket...unless your type of ticket explicitly says that's not the case. I remember reading some unusual things on the website about the iDTGV tickets (I only remember that I didn't buy that type)...apparently, being Canadian is a no-no :-( I suspected it was actually the 'eh' thing, but only Karen was crude astute enough to mention it ;-)

AHA,, random try again and it went thru.. same card.. this after numerous attempts, with two different cards. BUT ( and of course there is always one of those) I receivced an email confirmation and dossier number, but when going thru the ticket process it never asked for passenger information( which on previous attempts it did) and it says tickets are passenger specific, but mine confirmation just says two passengers. Have no idea now how to get names on tickets.. once again have emailed for answers. Also did not get to choose seats, which I don't like. This whole process was stupidly difficult, I booked airfare on two cheapo airlines ,, easier. Its just dumb.
