Rick Steves writes in his section entitled "Money 101," the following statement: "Some major US banks partner with "corresponding" European bank chains, meaning that you can use those ATMs with no fees at all — ask your bank"
So, I called my bank, US Bancorp, and asked. The customer representative said that US Bancorp does partner with some banks in Europe. The representative said that any ATM machine in Europe displaying the "Moneypass" logo would provide surcharge-free cash withdrawals when using a US Bancorp debit card.
The representative was unable to direct me to a printed or internet based listing of bank branches and their locations in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Slovenia that are part of the Moneypass ATM network.
So, my questions are these: 1) Can anyone verify that what the customer rep told me is true, namely that a US Bancorp debit card will waive US Bancorp surcharges when withdrawing cash from a ATM in Europe sporting the Moneypass logo?
And 2) if this is really true, are ATMs on the Moneypass network common across southern Germany, Austria, northern Italy, and Slovenia? I have been unable to find any print or internet directory for such ATMs, so any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Neil
