I purchased Rick's soft-no wheels-carryon and love it...But before we go to Iberia this September, Audrey has decided she would like a "roller" carryon, preferably soft... there seem to be several choices on Rick's website... any recommendations will be appreciated. George, Pittsburgh
We have the RS rolling carry on. Over several trips it has held up very well. Best of all is that it is only about 7 lbs.

Osprey Packs makes several wheeled carry-ons (Vector 22, Slipstream 18, Meridian 22, and Vector 22). The numbers refer to the volume in liters. Osprey products are very well made of the highest quality and will endure all the rigors of travel. I have a Meridian wheeled convertible pack and a Porter (no wheels) convertible carryon. Their products have sides reinforced with thin foam that helps to protect the contents. Numerous online sites (REI, for example) offer Osprey products.
Actually, I believe the Osprey numbers refer to the long dimension in inches. For example, the Osprey website says the capacity of of Meridian 22 is 60L. And this added benefit:
"Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in our product – whether it was purchased in 1974 or yesterday. If we are unable to perform a quality repair on your pack, we will happily replace it. We proudly stand behind this guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer."
Guarantee FAQ’s:
Jeff, thanks for the correction. I shoule have known, given that I have two of their packs. My Porter 46 (liters) is going with me to Italy this fall.
My wife goes with the roll-on also. I don't have a specific brand recommendation. Before you purchase, check out onebag.com for a good explanation of materials to look for in a bag. In addition to quality of materials, I would compare based on weight. The heaviest bags usually aren't the best ones and there may be 5 lbs. or more difference from one bag to another (which affects how much weight allowance is left for her clothes).
I replaced my old Rick Steves Convertible with an ebags wheeled backpack. A little heavier, but I can throw my wife's RS bag on it and wheel both around
