Is whey protein powder allowed to be brought into Europe since it is dairy based? I have gotten many responses from folks saying they've had no problems bringing in protein powder, but no one said whether they had been carrying whey based powder...thanks! Tammy
I do not have a definite yes or no answer to this. What I will say is I brought a months supply of protein packets with me last year and was never stopped or searched at the airport. I seriously do not think you're going to run into an issue with this, especially if it's a powdered protein.
I also just searched bringing Whey Protein on an International Flight and it appears folks do this with no problems.
The issue is with wet dairy products that can spoil. Powder isn't a concern.
Whey powder will be seized if discovered if imported into the EU from outside - it can only be legally imported with a licence and proper paperwork. Maybe many people will have successfully smuggled it in but that isn't the same as it being legal to do so - and no excuse if caught.
Further to the above below is the information from the gov.uk website: Meat and dairy products (other than powdered infant milk, infant food, special foods and special pet feed required for medical reasons): Not permitted Powdered infant milk, infant food, special foods and special pet feed required for medical reasons: 2kg total weight per person travelling So if you have a bona fide medical condition it may be possible to 2kg.
All airports can decide what they want... and you have no ability to object... I was just flying home from Guatemala last week and had two sealed containers of spices confiscated. Last trip I had handmade candles that I bought from the Abbey taken??? They were for my daughter's wedding. They also took a sealed jar of papaya/pineapple jam (which I guess was because of the fruit) So, I think you might have better luck if you check your bag. They told me those items would have been okay if I was checking.
The jam might have been in too big a jar to qualify for your 3-1-1 bag. It probably wasn't because of the fruit.
