And who paid who for this change? How about not charging for check-ins and then only charging for carry-ons that have to use an overhead bin? That would solve their bin problem in a hurry. Watch out for airlines to start charing for oversized carry-ons.

Hopefully I can get through a fall trip to Italy before retiring my classic carry on. Though I see so many people pushing the limits of carry on policies I'm not surprised they are starting to crack down.

Lee, I missed that. I thought about posting in a Transportation, but thought it would get a wider audience here. Another problem with the fragmentation of the a Helpline. But there are more responses on your post so hopefully people will check there.

I hope companies start making smaller carry-ons. Mine are bigger than what I need, because they are built to max out carry on size. Unfortunately the next step down is a day pack. I've been thinking about it but I prefer full zippers, like luggage, rather than half zippers, like book-bags. I've been thinking about just bringing an over the shoulder satchel type bag.
