Do car rental places (Ireland & England) have any rules regarding drivers licenses expiring within a few weeks. We are heading mid September to mid October, and my license expires at the end of October?
Ask the rental agency if your license needs to be good for some set period of time beyond the rental period. I doubt it is like a passport that there has to be an expiration some specified time in the future beyond your travel time
Any way to renew before you go?
Agree - just renew before you go.
If you renew it before you leave it is one less thing hanging over you when you get back, all refreshed and full of energy
Warren,
The easiest solution would be to renew your license early. I assume you have an Access Centre / Service BC office or whatever it's called now in Castlegar? Drop by there in about May as you can renew about six months / 180 days before your present license expires. This may help - https://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/getting-licensed/Pages/Renew-your-licence-or-ID.aspx
Last time I renewed my license, I had the new one within about a week.
It needs to be good while you are there. Some countries want another 3 months or so on your Passport after your scheduled departure. I've never heard of a requirement by a rental agent that your license be valid for longer than the hire date of the car.
I'll be renewing before. I had called our renewal place and didn't realize that you can renew up to 6 months before. I always thought it was only a month.
