Car booster seats-take with me?

I'm traveling with 4 boys (12, 9, 6, 23 months) to spain, france, germany, italy. I am renting cars in each of those countries and I plan on bringing booster seats for 9 and 6 yr olds and fixed child seat for youngest. Will the rental companies try and force me to rent their seat options or will I be okay taking my own? Any help appreciated.

I am sure you can take your own. Our limited experience with our granddaughter in Germany is that our kids brought their own car seat and had no problems.

gosh,, I didn't think a 9 yr old needed a booster seat anymore,,I thought the laws were 4'9" , 80lbs and 8yrs old...but perhaps child is small.

I have seen rental agencies with car seats but do they have boosters that would hold a 9 year old? I won bad mother if the year when Avis in Florida made me rent a car seat for my five year old and my boy was so tall already but they asked his age and I was reprimanded by the Avis man. Boy is now 12 (13 in a few) and 6'2" and there was no way then I could shove him in to the carseat they insisted I rent. If you want boosters I would take them and make sure the backseat can hold three - might be tight.

Keep in mind that EU regulations re booster and car seats are different from those in the U.S. You'll need to comply with EU requirements. Probably this would only come into question if there was an accident and you were found to be using non-compliant booster/car seats, but I'm only guessing. But you should check into it.

Thanks all for your help. I believe we will just take our booster seats and child seat with us.

I recommend this - I have one that my 7 year old uses when we travel. I got mine from Amazon. It is approved for use in the EU. Soooooooo much easier to haul around than the traditional booster. And my son did eventually get over the color :-) http://www.bubblebum.co/
