Ricks Steves has fantastic travel information, but none about Africa. Wondering if anyone form this great community has experience in Cape Town? I am looking for a place for my family to put down for a few days after a Safari in Namibia. Is City center a good place as home base? Thank you!
Jumping in before everybody lambasts you for this being a European site: That's where I'd go for a first time visit. Maybe look for a place along or within a couple blocks either side of Adderley Street since that's where you'll spend most of your time except for excursions. Don't go too far west or the area will start to go to pot. If you try to out-clever yourself and get on the other side of Signal Hill along the coast, it's going to be just beach and condos and you'll have to wiggle back to City Center every day.
It has been 9 years since I visited Cape Town, but I loved the Welgelegen Hotel. We were in one of the least expensive rooms and it was still very nice, but it looks like the prices have gone up a lot since we stayed there. http://www.welgelegen.co.za/
thank you both very much. great tips about Adderly street!
