Canadian Passport renewal times-Holy Doodle fast

Good news for Canadian passport holders. My wife and I renewed our passports last Friday, and one week later hers arrived by mail. Still waiting for mine. We both renewed via standard service at the local passport office in Calgary. If I understand correctly it is then shipped to Quebec for processing and then it was mailed back across the country to Calgary. I thought the postal time alone would be more than a week.

*Interesting instructions came with the passport. It's recommended that we keep it "tightly secured in a sealed plastic bag, a waterproof case or a pouch to prevent water damage". I wonder if that's a forewarning about damaged passports not being valid?

Good news about fhe speedy renewal. We need to do ours next year. I think the warning in the instructions is new, but we've always kept ours in a small zip lock, since we usually carry them in our neck pouches. Getting them sweaty is bad enough. Getting them soaked if caught in a downpour, or God forbid a flood is another. I understand that water damage is one of the conditions that can invalidate a passport.

I think I need to renew next year, too, but I have to deal with renewal from the US. Last time I went into an office in Abbotsford as my passport was long expired. I was worried because my mom was my guarantor. Although she'd signed my application in December, she died a month later. I didn't get around to the interview until I was back up in April. I had visions of the woman looking my guarantor up on the computer and realizing she had died. My passport arrived from Quebec, as well.

An update, one day later and I've received my passport as well. We applied for renewal together on Oct 25th and by Nov 1, we both had our new ones by mail. Interesting that even though we applied at the same time, mine was processed on Oct 25 and hers on Oct 27 even though she got hers first. If the passport #'s are given in order they are processed, mine was done 29 numbers earlier than hers.

The advice about keeping the Passport in a plastic pouch is important, as it doesn't take much damage to invalidate a Passport. I always keep my Passport in a sealed zip-lok bag when it's in my Money Belt, to prevent damage from perspiration or rain. Even damage as slight as bent pages could result in flight boarding denial.

I think this rule is somewhat consistent in most countries and this is one of many articles I've seen on the subject - https://www.onetravel.com/going-places/damaged-passport-heres-what-you-need-to-do/ .

Allan we did ours recently and were stunned at the speed as well, even though we shipped ours rather than visiting a passport office.

I must count how many numbers between them...

Glad to hear your passports are quickly and efficiently renewed. But Holy Doodle? Any relation to our boy Yankee? :)

Denny, it's his more pious cousin.
But seriously, is that a phrase in Canada? It's sweet

Good to hear…mine is due to be renewed early in the New Year.

Up here we also say Holy Moly, Holy Shamoley, Holy Smokes, Holy Macaroni, Holy Guacamole……if we really feel mad we might say the occasional Holy C - - P.

Depending on the audience I choose either holy doodle or holy sh#t. I used the other word once in front of my Mom when I was 10 or so years old. It was sternly suggested that in the future I say doodle instead.

We have the whole host of holies mentioned by SJ and Allan but this one is new to me. Like the other thread I’m reading about learning the language when you travel abroad. Thanks for the info. Safe travels everyone.

I'll be trying out the renewal process for Canadian passports from Rome next year. We'll see how that goes but I'm optimistic given your report.
