can't get written confirmation of hotel reservation and cancellation

Trying to get written documentation from two Paris hotels, so far in vain. I made a reservation with one Paris hotel (Hotel du Champ de Mars) by phone and cancelled another made online (Grand Hotel Leveque). Both are Rick-recommended hotels. I spoke with Anouar at Hotel du Champ de Mars and he assured me that my reservation is okay, but said he couldn't mail or email me a confirmation. He told me to email my request and the hotel would reply. I've emailed 3x (in English and French) asking for a reply in writing but no answer. Grand Hotel Leveque has also not replied to my emails asking for documentation of my cancellation. I will call them both again before I leave, but should I worry about having nothing in writing from the hotels? If so, how can I get them to reply? I want to be sure I have a room, and not be charged for the other room I cancelled. Thanks for any ideas or insights.

Undoubtedly you reserved your hotel using a credit card. Call your credit card company and say you want to dispute any charge from Grand Hotel Leveque. In my experience not hearing back from a French or Italian hotel isn't uncommon and my room was always there.
