I have an acquaintance (female, senior, traveling alone, never traveled internationally) who is scheduled to fly PDX>MSP>CDG>TUN (Tunis, Tunisia). FWIW, its a Delta ticket but the 2nd and 3rd legs are operated by partner Air France. Do you think she’ll be able to check her bags from PDX to TUN? Thanks for your input.
If she’s on a single ticket with Delta, her bag will be checked to her final destination, TUN.
As long as it is one ticket, she is good to go.
But please advise her to carry ALL of her medications, phone charger, a change of clothes, and any other essentials in her carry on bag. With several connections, the chances of her checked bag being delayed are increased.
It's a good idea to check the tags on the bags after they are checked in. They have the airport code on them, so she can see exactly where she has to pick them up again. If she doesn't know all the airport codes (I don't), asking will usually give an answer.
As this is her first international trip I hope someone is following her to the airport and can help her check in.
My experience is that all boarding passes are issued at check-in as well. If she doesn't get them, she should ask! And it's always a good idea to check the luggage tags to make sure they are routed to TUN before they are put on the belt.
With regard to luggage, I have leather luggage tags that will not rip off. The little paper ones that you pick up to fill out at the airport tear up easily. I also put a large sheet of paper in the suitcase
with my name and contact information.
