We are hoping to rent a car in Romania and would like to do a 1-way rental if possible. Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so which rental company you'd recommend. Thanks!
I know that a staffer here who rented a car in Romania went through Auto Europe, as we usually do. Typically in Europe, a one way-rental within a country is not a problem but dropping in a different country adds a significant fee. Between Romania and another country, I would expect the price range to actually be prohibitive, so plan to connect countries by train or air.
I rented a car at the airport in Bucharest and drove all over the country before dropping the car in Timisoara. There was no drop fee. From there I took the train to Budapest. I chose Timisoara because it was the easiest and closet place to the border where I could drop the car and take the train to Hungary.
What if you could get a licensed guide with a car for $200 to $250 a day including gas and tolls. Would that be as good?
Thank you all for the information. I think we'll stick with a car rental vs driver since we want to do 1-way and be spontaneous on our routes.
