Callling all snorkelers .... help w/ men's rash-guard shirt for swim/snorkeling

Need recommendations for a good rash-guard (sun protection) snorkel shirt for my husband. Noticed a few that come with hoods, and first impression is that would be good to protect head from sunburn.

Any especially good experience w/ a certain brand? Hood or no hood?

LandsEnd has a hooded one, which is a slim fit, but the arm diameter measurements will not work for my husband (ex-football type).

I've seen a few jacket type items, but those would be too heavy for intense sun.

Thanks for personal experience you can share.

Check out the Swim Outlet site. They have many options. Mine is an O'Niel but I am not the ex-football type. They tend to be form fitting in general. They do have sleeveless vest types. The hood has prevented much scalp burn for those of us showing more scalp than we would wish for.

Alan,
Thank you. I saw Swim Outlet on line, but didn't know if they were a good vendor. Sounds like you may have had positive experience with them.

Do a search in your area for SCUBA stores/schools. They will probably have what you are looking for and your husband can try it on. It may be surprising but there are probably 20+ SCUBA stores in Tennessee.

I bought some for my husband last year at Quiksilver. They fit nice and are great quality.

Thanks all.

I'll do some calling around locally to check inventories, and hopefully find some he can actually try on.

As I've read reviews, seems we need to be concerned not only with arm width, but also neck width (for some shirts).

Thanks to all who posted.

Good news....we found one yesterday, a Pantagonia, that he was able to try on at our local Cumberland Transit shop. Fit perfectly and rated for 50 sun protection.

The hooded shirts in stock didn't work, because they either had a sewn-in visor, which would make it awkward for snorkel gear on/off, or for others, there was lining that would likely not dry quickly. But, the sales guys at the shop recommended we use a dive cap for head protection, and we have one on hold at our local REI. So, I think hubby is good to go for his snorkel adventure :) with good sun protection.

Thank you all so much for your ideas and help.
