Buying stuff in airport between flights

Traveling to Heathrow with my RS bag and a laptop bag; plan to carry both on. Then changing at Heathrow to an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin. If I buy a few things at Boots in Terminal 1 (nothing big, just some toiletries), does that bag of goodies need to fit into either my RS bag or my laptop bag? Or can I walk onto the plane with both bags AND the little shopping bag from Boots?

You will have to abide by Aer Lingus' rules at that point. If you can put it in your bag, why not? Saves the possible problem (although you will probably see people carrying shopping bags). Remember that anything liquid that you are carrying on will have to be in your 3-1-1 bag and meet the quantity rule.

There are Boots in Dublin so if you could just wait until you get there. Assuming the bag is small, it probably won't be an issue but you should be prepared to put it inside one of your other bags. If you shop after security, you don't need to fit it in the 3-1-1 bag.

Teresa, most airlines have a contract with the airport, which has a contract with the vendors, that they will accommodate people bringing on items purchased at the airport (within reason). I've personally gone in with several bags with no problem - and we've all seen those folks with 7-8 FULL bags get on. Old traveler's trick: if you have too much carry on stuff, buy something cheap at the airport store, and put the stuff in the bag. Heathrow is -especially- good about this, as their malls do a HUGE amount of business. I don't think you'll have any problem at all. I never have. Chris

In regards to buying liquids and your 3-1-1 bag, if you do not have to go through security your good...but at Heathrow, it is very likely that in changing planes, especially if you have to change terminals, that you will go through a security checkpoint. Of course most of my experiences were during major construction at Heathrow, and that seems to be a continuous thing. You may want to wait until your are in your departure terminal to buy, as opposed to your arrival terminal.
