Buying package

We are planning a trip to Scotland this summer and we have found some places that offer airfare and a bunch of vouchers that can be used at "over 400 B&Bs" throughout Scotland. The only problem is, they don't list the B&B's, so we don't know if there are any in the areas we want to visit (off the beaten path).

Has anyone done this before and would you recommend it?

On my first trip to Ireland I had a package like this. When we received the vouchers we also received a B&B directory, and we made reservations with some of them before we left home. B&Bs are everywhere, so don't worry about there being none where you want to go. In Ireland we had a choice of farmhouse B&Bs (the off the beaten path ones, usually) or town and country ones. Some B&Bs take either kind of voucher. Be aware that you might have to pay a small additional amount for an en suite room. We had no issues with acceptance of the vouchers with any B&Bs in the directory. Pricewise, a voucher package is usually a wonderful deal.

Contact your local office of the Scottish tourist authority (or VisitBritain) and ask them to send you the 4 and 5 start B&B guide! They're great, not expensive at all but totally charming and a much better choice than any big name hotel. At the one in Sterling e.g. we had beds that looked like a princess's bed from an old movie and the two bedrooms we had were linked with each other via our own salon.
