In case you're visiting London the latter part of this week and over the weekend, there will be huge anti-war, anti-Bush, anti-nuclear demonstrations in central London involving those groups, as well as the Muslim community, which could cause problems with road closures/areas blocked off because of security concerns. Hopefully, the demonstrations will be peaceful, but travelers need to be extra vigilant during this time, as you all know there could be some violent incidents because of their outrage. For more info, just google "Bush visit to London-2008, and also for a different perspective-the website: www.stopwar.org.uk/.
Yeh I was in London for the Olympic torch relay. Traffic was a mess but it doesn't really matter unless you have to get to the Eurostar terminal etc. Just plan in some extra time. Demonstrations are peaceful. Most of the demonstrators are well meaning.
I get there on the 17th!! I hope everything calms down by then. Thanks for the heads-up.
I have 3 family members arriving in London on the 14th, so they have been forewarned. To make matters worse, there is another strike planned for June 17th in France, which is the day prior to their scheduled departure on the Eurostar for Paris. It appears the strike scheduled for the last two days wasn't so successful, so maybe the strike-weary French will call that one off. As for the demonstrations in London, I think it's mostly taking place on Sunday, the 15th, the day after the Queen's birthday celebration with the Trooping of the Colour, and Royal Horseguards Parade. Lots of excitement over the weekend there..huh?
