Hi, I'm travelling to Marsaille in a couple of days and am aware that to catch a bus I need to take the shuttle to the train station which is right by the bus station. Apparently the train station is quite far from Cassis town so I was wondering if the bus took you closer in? Wanting to save time as we don't arrive in Marsaille until 2pm and want to start enjoying Cassis as soon as possible! Thanks
Yes, the Cassis train station is a few kilometres outside the center of town. If I am reading the timetables correctly (in French), there is bus service from the SNCF train station in Marseille to the casino in Cassis. Here is a link to those timetables.
Hi Tim, Thanks for your reply. It seems as though the bus runs once an hour except at 'rush hour' time. Do you know if there is a bus direct from Marseille to Cassis town centre or would it stop at the train station? Thanks
Caroline, Oops! I just took another look at the timetable link I gave you. It's for a route in the greater Cassis area, not for Marseille-Cassis. It shows that you can take a bus from the Cassis train station to the casino in the heart of town. The buses run in conjunction with the train schedule between Marseille and Cassis. For example, the timetables show a train arriving from Marseille at 07:00 and a bus leaving the Cassis train station at 07:15 going toward the casino. My six-year-old Lonely Planet Provence & the Cote d'Azur guidebook says that Cassis lies on the Marseille-Bandol bus route, but I cannot find any information about the route.
Thank you! All very helpful... Caroline :-)
Caroline I am so jealous! We went to Cassis two years ago and absolutely loved it. So funny to read your post today because I just stumbled across my photo album this afternoon and looked at it and was reminded of our time there. We never ate a bad meal, the little back streets are full of wonderful smells and delicious food - I would go back there in a heartbeat! Enjoy!!!
