bus, train or taxi from airport to Munich? price, convenience, schedule? will stay 4 nights either near train station or old city unless I found a great place in Schwabbing (near Leopold? it's closed during Dec.) Still considering Royal, Bristol, and Flemming (Wolff sounds great but pricey)travelling from airport 2x into Munich city(going to Istanbul and coming back for 1 night, then back to US).
You can take the train from the airport right into the main tourist area of Munich for 8 euros. The ticket is good for for 24 hours in the city. Take the S1 or S8, trip is just under an hour
Train is super simple and drops you right at the main train station or beyond at the Marienplatz.
Indeed. Train.
First, a Tageskarte (day ticket) is not valid for 24 hours, it is valid until 6 AM the following morning.
A day ticket for the entire network costs €10 for one person, €18 for 2-5 people.
For €8,80 you can purchase a single trip ticket (Einzelfahrkarte) that will be valid for all modes of transport in the MVV network. That means that you can use it for the S-bahn from the airport to anywhere in Munich, including, for example, to the Hauptbahnhof and from there by, say, U-bahn and bus to your hotel. However, you have only four hours to complete your journey, and you must move continuously towards you destination - no backtracking.
