Budget-friendly Travel Ideas from Dublin Airport

Hello All,

I'm looking to plan a Euro vacation the week of February 17th with my father. I found a relatively reasonable round-trip flight from our hometown of Buffalo, NY to Dublin and was planning to hop on an RyanAir flight to spend the majority of the vacation somewhere else.

I was thinking of going to Spain or Porto but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions as I don't want to get stuck in bad weather (rainy season) for the trip. I'm open to any ideas but would like to keep the flight from Dublin less than 3 hours because it is too much traveling for my father after an international flight.

I also enjoy visiting places that are off the beaten track of regular tourist attractions so any under-rated places are appreciated!

Thanks in advances for any insights!

Spain has good weather that time of year especially the southern part. Italy also.
Figure out which cities you can fly into first from Dublin and then fill in

February is winter which means that you will not have one place in Europe which guarantees anything what you would consider as "good weather". Of course southern regions promise warmer temperatures but no guarantee.

I would go more for what are your interests. As long as you do what you love the weather does not play a role.

I would go somewhere further South just so you can get more daylight out of your days. I spent January in Sweden/Denmark one winter and I had a good 4/5 hours of daylight and then PITCH BLACK.

Based solely on my own experience, I strongly recommend Paris (if you haven't been) in Feb. I went at almost that exact time of year a few years ago and it wasn't too cold, but it was not crowded at all and was actually enjoyable to explore the city and the museums (without the famous hours-long waits). Usually, travelling in the winter is great for places that are just overcrowded and too touristy in the summer.

Ryanair has cheap flights to a lot of Italian and Spanish cities and once there, it's easy to take trains anywhere you want to go. However, keep in mind the luggage restraints on Ryanair are INSANE and you need to pay extra for anything bigger than a personal item, so just know that you will need to factor in these extra costs when you fly with them.

Italy can be nice in February. I lived in the Northeast of Italy for a few years and winters were nothing like we are used to!! (I’m your neighbor in Rochester, NY:)). I went to Treviso this past February and it was in the 40’s and 50’s every day, when it was freezing at home! Flowers were even blooming!!

I took a round trip from Dublin to Leeds on RyanAir in May. It was $46 round trip. The flight was a little under an hour. I only went for the weekend to visit friends. We spent a day in York and another day in Leeds.

If you want to visit sights in northern England, northern Wales or Scotland. That might be a good option.

Check out Sicily, February is a gd time to go. Fly into Palermo and see the island. I was there 2 years ago. A beautiful and interesting place with lots of ancient Roman and Greek sights to visit. Museums, beaches, views of Med. sea. I was amazed that is it still little known to travelers.
